About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Ann Arbor, Zamaan Cafe offers an authentic taste of Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine that delights the senses with every bite. This charming restaurant invites diners into a warm, casual atmosphere where the aromas of charbroiled meats, fragrant spices, and freshly made hummus instantly transport you to the vibrant streets of the Mediterranean.

Zamaan Cafe’s menu is a celebration of traditional flavors and expertly crafted dishes. You can start your meal with their Deluxe Falafel Pita Wrap, generously stuffed with crispy falafel, creamy hummus, and refreshing tabbouleh that bursts with zesty lemon and parsley. For those craving hearty warmth, the Lentil Soup offers a comforting embrace, while the Fattoush Falafel Salad combines crisp greens and tangy sumac-dusted vegetables that awaken your palate.

Signature specialties at Zamaan showcase the best of Lebanese grilling traditions. The Shish Tawook Specialty features tangy marinated chicken breast cubes charbroiled to perfection, delivered alongside fluffy rice and a side of luscious garlic sauce that invites dipping and savoring. The Shish Kafta Specialty pleases with skewers of spiced ground beef and lamb, tender and juicy with every mouthful, accompanied by velvety hummus and rice. Adventurous diners also rave about the Chicken Biryani Specialty — a fragrant blend of tender chicken mixed with aromatic spices, cranberries, and crunchy almonds creating an exquisite balance of savory and sweet. For the vegetarian or those seeking layering of textures and flavors, the Makale Hummus, topped with fried potato cubes, eggplant, tomatoes, and fresh herbs, is a wonderfully earthy rendition that elevates the classic hummus experience.

The hummus offerings at Zamaan deserve special mention. From the silky Traditional Hummus, an artful blend of chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil, to creative varieties such as the Baladi Hummus adorned with briny olives, diced tomatoes, and feta, each dish is a satisfying canvas of tastes and textures. The Hummus Bi Shawarma, crowned with tender chicken or meat shawarma, offers a mouthwatering twist that’s hearty and rich.

The ambiance at Zamaan Cafe strikes a perfect balance between relaxed and inviting. According to delighted customers, the café features cozy leather chairs and couches alongside traditional seating, crafting an environment that’s equally suited for casual meals or lingering conversations over aromatic cinnamon sweet tea or the SharZamaan drink. Friendly staff enhance the experience with warm hospitality and thoughtful touches, like complimentary desserts that make you feel truly welcomed.

Always friendly staff and great service! I walked in, placed an order and had a seat while they made it fresh, a minute or two later they came by with a complimentary dessert and thanked me for waiting. Such wonder staff, and the food is always delicious!

Food was really solid. Chicken shawarma gets a noticeable dose of fenugreek, delicious. Good hummus, great garlic sauce, and their fries are exactly how I like them. The atmosphere is fine to middling, but that’s not why I would go there.

Was on the way through and was looking for meat-free options for a Friday lunch (Catholics will understand) and happened upon this place. Shared a sampling of appetizers with my group and everything was excellent. The spicy hummus was a good choice (added flavor, not just heat) and I could have eaten so many of the falafel. Casual atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff.

We got a smattering of appetizers, the sweet cinnamon tea, and the Shay Zamaan drink. Good sized portions, the drinks were tasty. The cinnamon tea is exactly what you would want from cinnamon tea. The atmosphere is relaxing, calm, and casual. There were couches and leather chairs to sit on in addition to regular tables and chairs.

Shish kebab here is the best grilled beef in Ann Arbor. It is very tender and delicious. Upside down is also a great vegetarian option. We eat here dozens of times and it is good every time.

The gentleman was very friendly and welcoming. The shish combo was perfect for two people, along with hummus. Everything tasted incredible and flavorful. The hummus was fresh and smooth! Will be back again!

Visiting my daughter at the University of Michigan I stayed in one of the local hotels. I wanted dinner, but not from a chain restaurant and opted for Zamaan Cafe. What a great choice it was! The place is unassuming, yet cozy. The owner, Ali, is welcoming and helpful when it comes to choosing items from the menu. But it really is the food that steals the show here: delicious, fresh, tasty and prepared fast. I had a chicken shawarma with pickles, tomatoes and garlic, a side of hummus and their famous cinnamon tea. It was a feast that I will try to replicate next time I am in Ann Arbor.

Nothing to complain about, quality food, on time with a smile. I would have preferred larger portions, but it was very affordable. Next time I'll order more food. Like I said, not at all expensive.
